    Problem Solving Empty Problem Solving

Post by mrstsingleton Mon Sep 28, 2015 6:25 am

There are 12 boys and 10 girls in your gym class. If 6 boys joined the class how many girls would need to join for the ratio of boys to girls to remain the same? Show your work.

Problem Solving Empty 5 Girls would need to join

Post by Tristian Urick Tue Sep 29, 2015 3:01 am

because if you go back in chart you would get 6 over 5 then I noticed that 6 times 3 = 18 so then I just multiplied 5 to 3 to get 15 and sense the # of girls is 10 I just add.Very Happy Smile

I think that 6 girls need to join because if you add 6 boys then you need to add 6 girls so that the ratio will stay the same. Smile

you need 6 girls to join because there are two people apart so if 6 boys join then it will be 18 and if 6 girls join it will be 16 so 18 and 16 is two people apart. Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

queen i think youll need six more girls to join because if theres six boys that joined and you have to keep the ratios the same itll have to be 6 to 6 king #likeaboss

I think the answer is 5 because if you put 12 over 10 and divide it by 2 you get 6 over 5, 6:5.

I think that 6 more girls should join because if you add the number of boys and girls you'll get 22 and if you 6 more boys you would get 28.so if you divide28 by6 then you will get 4r2 so if you add 4r2 then you will get 6. So ,that's why I chose 6 more girls to be even.

scratch scratch Idea well when you add the 6 new boys it would be 18 boys like so 12+6=18 and 10 girls but in order to remain the same you would have to subtract 2 to the boys, since the boys had 2 more than the girls just like last time on 12:10. You could subtract the boys amount by two and get the answer like so 18-2=16 so then the ratio would be 18:. Cool Cool

There are 12 boys divided by of 22 equals 1.83. 10 girls divided by 22 equals 2.2. Subtract 2.2 from 1.83 to equal the .37 difference. There are now 18 boys out of 28 kids. 18 divided into 28 equals  1.55. Add the difference of .37 to 1.55 to come up with the new ratio to the girls of 1.92. Divide  1.92 into the new total of 28 which comes to 14.5 so I would say 4 girls need to be added. Question

I think there are 5 girls because 12 divided by 2 equal 6 so you have to the same with 10 so it would be 5 girls.

I think 5 girls need to join because if you simplify 12:10 you get 6:5. Then you have to add 12+6 you get 18. then you add 10+5 to get 15.Then you have to simplify the new ratio 18:15 to get 6:5. So the simplified fractions are equivalent.
